I've been pleasantly surprised by the recent inquiries regarding how the nationwide rise in food prices may have influenced demand for PFW. Interestingly, I haven't observed a marked increase in our customers or basket sizes. Despite inflation and tariffs, local food prices remain higher than those at regular grocery stores, right? Our recent price comparison yielded some astonishing results!

I am thrilled to share that our pricing has never been more comparable to that of a grocery store! This incredible value is especially highlighted when you take advantage of our Subscribe and Save program, as well as our bulk purchasing options. Don't forget to explore our bundles, which provide the greatest savings available at Philly Foodworks.

When you utilize subscribe and Save and bulk/bundle pricing we are about 7% higher than Wegmans—equating to approximately $6.79 more per week, or $346.29 annually. Two caveats: 1. The contents listed above are not an entire grocery bill. 2. I did not compare packaged and prepared foods, where our local and artisan options carry a higher premium.

But, there’s more to consider! I conducted a bit of research and found that, on average, an astonishingly low 23.4 cents of every dollar spent on groceries actually makes its way back to the farmer. In contrast, we at Philly Foodworks take immense pride in stating that a remarkable 50 cents of every dollar you spend goes directly to local farmers and producers!

Here’s another intriguing fact: did you know that the average distance traveled by the food on your plate is 1,494 miles? At Philly Foodworks, we make it a priority to ensure that 85% of everything we sell comes from within 150 miles of our warehouse.

Let’s also consider the impact of large chain stores on our community. Between 14% to 30% of your dollar spent at these stores tends to remain in the local economy. However, when you choose to shop with us, over 90% of every dollar you spend stays right here within 150 miles of Philadelphia. That’s truly a testament to supporting our local community!

So, why does this all matter? I’ve been reflecting deeply on the value of local food, a concept that is rich and multifaceted. The definition of “value” varies across cultures and languages, yet all stress its significant role in our society. As defined by Merriam-Webster, value is “the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something.”

In a rapidly changing world, where the stability of our material well-being feels uncertainty, fostering a robust local food system and nurturing a healthy local economy can serve as a vital anchor. Now is the time to invest in these critical connections and relationships.

Opting for local food is not only a choice for a healthier and tastier diet; it’s a meaningful investment in our shared future. Together, we can make a difference.. Thank you for your commitment towards bettering not only your life but our community’s future as well. I am confident that you will find unparalleled value in what we provide!
